HOUSTON – With temperatures soaring into the 90s and a heat index reaching nearly 105 degrees, participants demonstrated their commitment to the cause.
KPRC 2’s Gage Goulding hosted the event and participated in the tournament, joining fellow golfers in a day dedicated to raising funds for the organization.

“Our dog walkers come out every day, rain or shine, heat and all weather conditions. So, it’s the least we can do to raise money for the Houston Humane Society,” said Debbie Ortiz, the development director at the Houston Humane Society.
A total of 76 golfers made up the 20 teams that spent the morning golfing at Wildcat Golf Course in Houston.
The goal was to raise $40,000 for the Houston Humane Society. Unlike their low scores, they racked up a much larger number for the animals who need it most.
“We had a goal of $40,000. We are now over $50,000. So, thank you to all of you who came out to support us today,” Ortiz said. “It makes a world of difference, all of the support we get from individuals in the community. We do not get any government or federal funding. Any amount that we raise through one of our events helps to keep the lights on, to keep the dogs walked, to help provide the supplies to have the pets in their homes.”
While the tournament is in the books, donations are always welcome at the Houston Humane Society. That can be in the form of money or your time volunteering.
