The barrier-free camp experience, delivered through a partnership between local nonprofit Camp For All, MD Anderson Cancer Center, and Texas Children’s Hospital, brings traditional camp activities directly to children who can’t leave their hospital rooms.

“While their peers are outside enjoying typical summer activities, these young patients face the challenge of extended hospital stays,” says Pat Prior Sorrells, President & CEO of Camp For All. “Our program ensures they don’t miss out on the transformative camp experience.”

Making Hospital Stays More Bearable

The program delivers crafts, games, music, and movement activities to patient bedsides and activity rooms, creating an environment where medical equipment shares space with camp-style fun.

Unlike traditional summer camps, this innovative approach requires no bug spray or sunscreen, just enthusiasm and creativity.

Expanding Reach Across Medical Center

The summer schedule includes multiple sessions across major healthcare facilities:

• MD Anderson Cancer Center: June 9-13

• Texas Children’s Hospital Main Campus: June 23-27

• Texas Children’s Hospital West Campus: July 14-18

Impact on Young Patients

Healthcare professionals note that programs like Camp For All 2U play a crucial role in maintaining children’s emotional and social development during extended hospital stays.

The initiative transforms sterile hospital environments into spaces where young patients can experience joy, creativity, and connection with others.
