What happened?
Security guards spotted the group inside the building just after midnight and quickly alerted law enforcement.
The suspects are identified as Conner Carson, Michael Gorman, and Jack Ryan McGowan.
They were later seen running across a parking lot and jumping a fence near Fannin and Holly Hall, where Precinct 1 deputies arrested them.
Astrodome’s history & future
The Astrodome has been closed to the public since 2009. When it opened in 1965, it was the world’s first air-conditioned domed stadium and earned the nickname “The Eighth Wonder of the World.”
It was home to the Houston Astros and Oilers and hosted icons like Muhammad Ali, Selena, Elvis Presley, and Bob Dylan.
In November 2024, a redevelopment project called “Vision: Astrodome” was announced, aiming to transform the legendary space into a global entertainment destination at the heart of NRG Park. The next step is to share this plan with the County and the Commissioners.
What is urban exploration?
Now, investigators are looking into whether the trio may be part of an urban exploration or content creation group.
These groups often target abandoned or historic sites to film videos or take photos, sometimes without permission.
@urbex.tx So much history made in this mysterious place.. The Astrodome, often referred to as the "Eighth Wonder of the World," opened in Houston, Texas, in 1965 as the world's first domed stadium, revolutionizing sports and entertainment with its innovative design. Initially a symbol of progress and a hub for major events, the Astrodome hosted everything from baseball games to concerts and even rodeos. However, as newer venues with modern amenities emerged, the Astrodome fell into disuse and was officially abandoned in 1999, leading to concerns about its deteriorating condition. Despite its decline, there are ongoing discussions about revitalizing the structure, with plans for potential redevelopment into a multi-purpose space that could serve the community and preserve its historical significance, highlighting the need to balance nostalgia with innovation in urban development. #houston #urbex #abandoned #astrodome #urbanexploring #abandonedplaces

Precinct 1 Constable Alan Rosen warned others not to follow their lead.
“Sneaking into closed old historic buildings is dangerous,” he said. “You are taking a risk for yourself and first responders, and it is against the law.”
All suspects were charged with misdemeanors and have been released on bond.
