Police investigating after man’s body found on fire in SE Houston field

HOUSTON – The Houston Police Department’s Homicide Division along with the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences as well as the Houston Fire Department Arson Division are investigating the death of a man whose body was found on fire in a field on the southeast side of town.

Authorities said they were called to the field at 11800 Astoria Blvd. at around 2 p.m. Sunday after being called to a report of a man’s body in a field.

Witnesses told police they saw a man whose lower legs were engulfed in flames and attempted to help him by putting out the fire. They were unsuccessful.

Firefighters arrived and put out the fire, however, the man was pronounced dead.

Authorities say they found a gas can and an electric bicycle nearby. They are investigating the circumstances surrounding the man’s death as well as how the fire started.

The man’s identity is pending confirmation by the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences.
