Supporting child development: Brain Builders Program is free for young moms in Texas

The first year of life is critical for brain development, with the brain forming new connections at an astonishing rate of one million per second. The caregiver’s ability to interact with their children and stimulate these neural connections is essential.

Dr. Quianta Moore, Executive Director of the Hackett Center for Mental Health has researched early childhood development and created a program to help children succeed.

The program is called Brain Builders.

“Those neural connections are really what basically builds the architecture of the brain. We know that everything we are as humans—our ability to converse, comprehend, have emotional regulation, and engage in relationships—is tied to how the brain was developed," Dr. Moore explained.

As more focus turns to having mentally healthy kids and moms, the Brain Builders program offers online and in-person classes that make it easier for busy moms to participate.

The program is free and open to the public, focusing primarily on pregnant moms and children under three.

The U.S. Surgeon General reported that 65% of parents feel isolated. Brain Builders aims to change that by creating a supportive community for moms and teaching them the best interactions to foster positive brain development in their kids.
