24 dogs rescued from hoarding situation in Rosenberg now up for adoption

Houston Humane Society is asking for the public’s help finding loving homes for 24 dogs that were recently rescued from a hoarding situation in Rosenberg.

“A woman in Rosenberg wanted to start her own dog rescue. Her heart was in the right place,” says Leslie Ruiz with Houston Humane. “But without the resources, support or space, things spiraled out of control.”

Ruiz says the woman kept taking in more dogs, housing them on her property. Over time, conditions worsened and the rooms in the home became overcrowded, dirty and infested. A visit from Rosenberg Animal Control resulted in two dozen dogs being removed and transferred to Houston Humane for medical care and rehabilitation.

Behaviorists on campus have been working with the dogs for nearly two months. Despite the devastating effects of living in a hoarding situation, they say the dogs have made incredible strides in their emotional wellbeing.

“Our behavior team is fantastic. They’ve been working with those animals to get them adjusted, get them used to being in kennels,” says Greg Evans, Community Impact Director for HHS. “There’s that trust factor. They’ve been scarred in a way. So give them a little bit of time to adjust.”

If you’d like to provide a loving foster or forever home to one of these pets, please visit HoustonHumane.org or visit them at 14700 Almeda Road.
