Pearland man seeks justice after surviving violent car dragging incident

PEARLAND, Texas – A Pearland man who says he survived being dragged for 200 feet while trapped under a vehicle during an attempted car burglary, is calling for the perpetrator to surrender to authorities.

David Webb suffered 21 broken bones and multiple fractures after confronting a suspect who was burglarizing his girlfriend’s Jeep at El Franco Lee Park in April.

The incident left Webb hospitalized with severe injuries requiring ten surgeries across two medical facilities.

Webb, an avid mountain biker who frequently rode trails at El Franco Lee Park, discovered the suspect rummaging through his girlfriend’s vehicle upon returning from a ride.

“I’m hollering at him, ‘Hey what you doing?’ And he slams the door and jumps in his vehicle right next door to it,” Webb recounted.

The situation quickly escalated when the suspect, described as a young male driving a black Honda Civic, attempted to flee the scene. Webb, still clipped into his mountain bike, was struck by the vehicle and became trapped underneath.

“I see the tire just going like this going over me and I’m thinking oh I’m going to die,” Webb said, describing the terrifying moments as the suspect drove forward and then reversed over him. “When he takes off again, I’m still trapped under his car.”

The extensive list of injuries Webb sustained includes:

  • Four fractures to his pelvis
  • Broken scapulas and collar bones
  • Crushed ribs
  • Multiple forearm fractures
  • A total of 21 broken bones

Webb says his survival hinged on the quick thinking of an unidentified good Samaritan who witnessed the incident.

The bystander used their truck to strike the Civic, successfully freeing Webb from underneath the vehicle. The suspect fled the scene immediately after.

After extensive medical treatment, including ten surgeries across two hospitals, Webb is finally returning home. He faces months of rehabilitation but remains grateful to the good Samaritan and medical team who aided in his recovery.

Webb’s message to the perpetrator is clear: “Turn yourself in and do the right thing.”

Law enforcement officials continue to investigate the incident. The suspect was last seen driving a black Honda Civic, and authorities are asking anyone with information to come forward.
