BAYTOWN, Texas – The city of Baytown says a pump failure at one of its lift stations led to an overflow of wastewater over the weekend.

The city says the incident happened after the pump failed at the Raccoon Drive lift station, causing a wastewater overflow into the Caney Creek receiving stream which was estimated to be greater than 100,000 gallons.

While the city acknowledged the wastewater overflow, they also noted the city’s drinking water was not affected.

“While we are working on lift station repairs, Baytown residents should know that their drinking water is safe,” said City Manager Jason Reynolds. “This notice is required by the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality and this media release serves as a way to inform, and not alarm, the public.”

The city says the overflow started around 10 p.m. Saturday night and ended around 7:30 a.m. Sunday.
