Suspect in fatal Houston METRO bus shooting arrested

HOUSTON – The man suspected of fatally shooting another man during an argument on a METRO bus on Houston’s southside last week has been arrested.

Carltonio Jackson, 22, is charged with murder. Authorities released Jackson’s name and mugshot for the first time yesterday.

The shooting happened near 2200 West Bellfort Avenue around 2:30 p.m. on May 23.

The suspect, Carltonio Jackson, 22, is charged with murder in the shooting death of Phillip Ogiemwonyi, 35.

After being shot, Ogiemwonyi was found lying on the sidewalk. He was transported to an area hospital by HFD paramedics, but he was later pronounced dead.

Further investigation revealed that Ogiemwonyi had been in a verbal dispute with a man on the Metro bus. The man then drew a weapon and shot him.

The suspect is a Black male, in his mid-20s to early-30s, approximately six feet tall, with dreadlocks, and was wearing light-colored shorts with blue and white stripes and a black t-shirt. (Copyright 2024 by KPRC Click2Houston - All rights reserved.)

A short time later, investigators released surveillance photos of the suspect, which pointed them towards Jackson.
