Houston man and daughter killed in Bolivar shooting; suspect found dead after standoff

BOLIVAR PENINSULA, Texas – A man allegedly connected to a double homicide on Bolivar Peninsula killed himself during a standoff in Beaumont, deputies said.

Galveston County deputies responded to a shooting on Kirkpatrick near Highway 87 in Gilchrist at about 11:30 p.m. Friday.

Deputies discovered a man and a woman dead outside the home.

The victims are 45-year-old Eric Dopp of Houston and his daughter, 24-year-old Wisdom Hall of Pearland.

According to investigators, the two were fatally shot during what began as a verbal argument. The situation escalated quickly, though the exact cause of the dispute remains unclear.

The suspected gunman has been identified as 38-year-old Johnathan Findley of Pasadena.

Officials say all three individuals knew each other and were visiting a mutual friend of Findley’s in the Gilchrist area at the time of the incident.

Witnesses say Findley left the scene in a white car after the shooting.

Deputies quickly notified surrounding law enforcement agencies.

Findley was spotted in Chambers County before he led deputies on a chase.

It ended when he stopped on the service road of I-10 in Beaumont and barricaded himself inside the vehicle.

Deputies said he refused to surrender before he shot and killed himself.

The Galveston County Sheriff’s Office was investigating.
