A family argument turned violent Saturday morning when a 25-year-old man was shot by his father-in-law outside a business in Conroe.

It happened around 10:20 a.m. at a property off Highway 105 West. When police got there, they found Koda Mayrant with a gunshot wound.

Officers started first aid before paramedics took over and rushed him to a nearby hospital. He’s expected to survive and was last listed in serious but stable condition.

Police say the shooter is 47-year-old James Jack, who is Mayrant’s father-in-law.

Investigators say the two men got into a heated argument that escalated into a physical fight. At some point, Mayrant allegedly put Jack in a chokehold.

Police say Jack pulled out a gun and fired a single shot, hitting Mayrant in the stomach.

Detectives are still gathering evidence, and no one has been arrested at this time.

The Montgomery County District Attorney’s Office will decide whether charges should be filed once the investigation wraps up.
