A man and a Houston police officer are in the hospital after a violent confrontation on Westheimer Road near The Galleria on Sunday.
It started around 4:40 p.m. in the 5000 block of Westheimer, where HPD officers were working private security jobs.

Police say they approached a car parked on private property when the driver suddenly pulled out onto Westheimer, driving against traffic.
As one longtime HPD officer tried to stop the vehicle, the driver allegedly attempted to run him over. The officer responded by firing his weapon, hitting the driver.
Both the officer and the man were taken to the hospital. Their conditions have not been released.
Investigators say the car had paper plates and may be tied to a case from the previous day involving “jugging” which is a crime where someone follows a person from a store or bank to rob them.
The investigation is ongoing.
