Deputies responded and were given permission to search the home for him. They found Reyes on the back patio with a gun. Shots were fired during the encounter, and Reyes was hit.

Despite being wounded, he managed to run to a nearby home. Deputies quickly found him, gave first aid, and had him taken to a hospital, where he remains in fair condition.

No deputies were injured in the incident. Reyes is now facing a charge of aggravated assault of a police officer.

“Please, if you are drinking, please do not handle weapons at the same time, said Chief Harrison of Harris County Precinct 1. ”It’s so important. We are in a holiday weekend. People are going to celebrate the holiday, but guns and alcohol do not mix.”

The deputies involved are on temporary administrative leave, which is standard procedure. An internal review is underway, and the Harris County Sheriff’s Office is investigating along with the District Attorney’s Office.
