Third fire since March at boarded-up Channelview hotel used by homeless

A large fire is burning at a vacant, boarded-up building that used to be the Fairfield Inn and Suites off I-10 East at Sheldon Road in Channelview.

The property, now routinely used by homeless individuals for shelter, has seen three fires since March.

Thick smoke is visible on TranStar traffic cameras as mutual aid teams assist Channelview Fire Department at the scene.
