Houston Christian University is now just one win away from claiming the 2025 Southland Conference Baseball Championship and potentially earning its first NCAA Tournament berth since 2015.

With Thursday’s 8-3 victory over 8-seed New Orleans, the 6-seed Huskies continued their strong postseason run in front of a sold-out crowd at Husky Field in southwest Houston.

Fueled by a five-run fourth inning, the Huskies built a commanding 7-0 lead over the Privateers. HCU’s strong start was highlighted by a two-run homer from Rhett Hendricks.

Starting pitcher Parker Edwards offered solid play for HCU on the mound, allowing just two hits over 7.0 scoreless innings.

Though New Orleans mounted a brief comeback with a three-run homer in the eighth, HCU added an insurance run in the bottom frame before the Huskies shut the door in the ninth.

The two teams will face off again on Friday, May 23, at 6 p.m. with HCU looking to clinch the series and the conference title.
