HOUSTON – You’ve probably heard of the popular series “Landman” streaming on Paramount+, but did you know it was filmed in Texas?

Set in West Texas, the series focuses on the dark side of the oil and gas industry through the lens of a “fixer,” played by the legendary Billy Bob Thornton. It was also created by Texas-native Christian Wallace and esteemed writer/director Taylor Sheridan, who is best known for co-creating the acclaimed series “Yellowstone" and its prequels "1883″ and “1923."

After its first season premiered in 2024, fans and critics alike have lauded “Landman,” which has even been nominated for a Golden Globe. But perhaps even more exciting is the fact that it’s filmed in and around Fort Worth, giving it a representative (albeit dramatic) look at the underbelly world of billionaire oil tycoons and roughnecks in West Texas.

To help recognize this achievement, “Landman” will be presented with the inaugural “Texas Made” award during this year’s ATX TV Festival.

In partnership with Media for Texas, which looks to create a thriving entertainment industry in the state, the “Texas Made” award celebrates individuals and productions with Texas ties. It also recognizes professional opportunities for the Lone Star State’s creative community while bolstering it as a cultural center through its work.

Accepting the award, which will formally take place on Sunday, June 1, will be Thornton, Wallace, and Jacob Lofland, who plays Thornton’s son in the series. After, the three will discuss the show’s record-breaking final season that skyrocketed as the most-watched original series on Paramount+.

Season 2 of “Landman” is currently being filmed, but the entire first season is available for streaming now on Paramount+. Learn more and get tickets to ATX Festival by clicking here. You can also learn more about Media for Texas by visiting their website or following them on Instagram.
