On Sunday, Scottie Scheffler took home the 2025 PGA Championship, winning by five strokes and securing his third major tournament victory in dominant fashion.

After the win, one of Scheffler’s sponsors made a tongue-in-cheek reference to his infamous arrest near the venue of last year’s PGA Championship.

Nike posted an image of Scheffler with the facetious text, “Best player in the world? Guilty.”

The post referenced Sheffler’s arrest in the early morning hours of May 17, 2024. After having some sort of disagreement with an officer directing traffic near the venue, Scheffler was arrested and charged with a felony count of assaulting a police officer with his vehicle, along with three misdemeanors.

Video of Scheffler in handcuffs being escorted by officers was later posted online, followed by a mugshot of Scheffler in an orange jumpsuit.

12 days later, the charges against Scheffler were dropped, and prosecutors referred to the incident as “a big misunderstanding.”

The 2025 PGA Championship was Scheffler’s first major win since the arrest. His other two major victories were both Masters, winning the prestigious tournament in both 2022 and 2024, with the latter win being a month before his arrest.
