During the stop, they said another driver crashed into his patrol unit and hit the officer’s leg.

“While the officer was detaining the driver, he observed a vehicle approaching the shoulder and not slowing down. That vehicle struck the rear door of the officer’s patrol shop causing the officer to dive into the vehicle to avoid being hurt,” said Sgt. Richards with the Houston Police Department.

The officer was taken to the hospital with minor injuries.

The driver of the car that hit him was taken into custody.

Police said he showed signs of impairment, but that is still under investigation.
