When they got there at 3:55 p.m., they found two vehicles involved in a wreck. The drivers told police a green SUV had cut across them, forcing both of their cars to crash.

Officers, along with the people involved in that initial crash, moved a short distance down to the 10800 block of the freeway to continue investigating. That’s when officers spotted a green SUV with minor damage, matching the description the other drivers gave, parked in a parking lot nearby.

They approached the SUV and found a man inside who appeared intoxicated.

According to police, he suddenly pulled out a weapon while still inside the vehicle and pointed it at officers. At least one officer opened fire, hitting the man. He died at the scene.

None of the officers were hurt.

Police say body camera video of the incident will be released within 30 days.
