Man found dead wrapped in blanket after suspect enlists help from stranger to move furniture at NW Harris County home

HARRIS COUNTY, Texas – Law enforcement have provided more details in a complicated and confusing scene that unfolded after a man’s body was found wrapped in a blanket at a northwest Harris County home Friday.

The sheriff’s office says several different calls were coming in at the same time, including one around 11 a.m. when deputies were dispatched to a suspicious person call in the 3700 block of FM 1960. A man was found at the location bleeding from his head.

A separate call dropped around the same time of a possible instance of failure to stop and render aid nearby.

Around the same time, deputies were informed by a man, who was a witness, that there was a body at a home in the 4100 block of Tim Allen Ct.

Deputies arrived at the home and found a man’s body wrapped in a blanket in front of the home’s garage.

Detectives have learned that the man found dead was a contractor who had been working at the home of the suspect. There was some sort of incident between the suspect and the contractor and the contractor was ultimately killed.

Afterwards, detectives said the suspect asked a stranger, who was the witness who spoke to detectives, if he would mind helping him move some furniture. The stranger agreed and started helping the suspect.

As the two started moving furniture, the stranger saw the body of the contractor inside of a box. He then tried to flee from the scene, jumping into the victim’s truck and speeding away. But before the stranger could get away, the suspect jumped in the back of the truck and started breaking the windows as they drove, in an attempt to stop the stranger.

At some point, the truck was involved in a crash, injuring the suspect. This is believed to be the incident where authorities were called for the failure to stop and render aid call.

The suspect was later found at the FM 1960 location and taken to a hospital. Detectives will interview him and do anticipate filing charges on him.

We know authorities have questioned the witness who fled in the truck. No charges are anticipated against the witness who was questioned.

At the scene, KPRC 2 News saw a woman get released after being detained by deputies, who identified herself as the homeowner on Tim Allen Court. She said she was working when the incident happened and didn’t know what occurred, but that her boyfriend was at the home and a contractor was completing a bathroom project.

Authorities don’t believe the man’s body had been at the home very long. They believe everything that had happened before the man’s body was found happened within the last day.

Friday night, KPRC 2’s Corley Peel obtained surveillance video which appears to show the moment the stranger discovered the body inside of the box. The video shows him start driving the truck away while the suspect follows.

A neighbor said he had heard yelling come from the home that abruptly stopped. He even said he had spoken to the suspect.

“He started talking about God and that same thing he did. Couple of months ago. And I’m thinking, well, that’s great. Glad to see you have a job and whatever. So he drives, he acts like he’s talking on the phone. And he says, I gotta go. So he left,” the neighbor said.
