If you’re driving through Texas City on Friday, part of 9th Avenue is closed off due to a gas leak.
City emergency crews are responding to a 2-inch gas line that was accidentally punctured near 14th Street and 9th Avenue, also known as Palmer Highway.

Texas City Emergency Management says the leak was caused by a directional crew working in the area.
9th Avenue is shut down from 15th Street to 12th Street. 14th Street is also blocked from 9th Avenue down to 13th Avenue.
Emergency responders are on the scene and expect repairs to take anywhere from 2 to 4 hours.
Joe Tumbleson, the city’s emergency manager, is asking people to avoid the area if possible while crews work to safely contain and repair the leak.
