Westbury High School Senior Chance Williams excels in jiu-jitsu, will study at Texas A&M University

Williams is the eighteenth recipient of the KPRC 2-American Furniture Warehouse Senior Scholarship from the Class of 2025

HOUSTON – KPRC 2 and American Furniture Warehouse are surprising 20 deserving high school seniors with $2,500 scholarships in 2025. All students selected for scholarships have been nominated by their high schools.

Westbury High School senior Chance Williams is this week’s KPRC 2-American Furniture Warehouse Senior Scholarship winner. Westbury High School is part of the Houston Independent School District.

Williams is a JROTC leadership officer who also participated in the Houston Police Department’s Explorers program. He is captain of the wrestling team and is working toward becoming a nationally ranked jiu-jitsu fighter. In addition to his extracurricular activities, Williams actively volunteers with Breakthrough Houston, a program that supports children in underserved areas with tutoring and learning opportunities to boost their chances of success in school.

In January, Williams’ brother Cornelius died after battling cancer. Williams tells KPRC 2 Cornelius was “fearless” and a “role model” for him. In his scholarship nomination essay, Williams said, “It’s no longer just about me, but accomplishing the plans my brother and I talked about...[for] my future, but for him as well.”

Williams plans to study political science at Texas A&M University. He hopes to become a lawyer in the future.
