Homeowner shoots guest in Houston home following disagreement at coworker gathering

A man in his 30’s is dead after being shot while attending a house party among coworkers in Southeast Houston.

Shortly after 4 a.m. Sunday morning, Houston Police Department officers were alerted to a shooting in the 3600 block of Mainer Street.

When authorities arrived, they found an adult male with a gunshot wound. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

After the scene had cleared HPD sources confirmed that the homeowner invited coworkers over, and alcohol was involved.

An altercation started involving one of the residents of the home and one of the guests, prompting the homeowner to shoot the guest.

John Toon Davis lives across the street from where the shooting happened and said he heard several rapid gunshots.

“It could have been six to eight,” said Davis.

Davis recalls waking up from a nap, hearing the shots and walking outside to a crime scene.

“Nobody wants to come home to hearing gunshots. Nobody wants the come home or think that they may walk outside of their house and it might be them next,” said Davis.

HPD said the incident is under investigation, and homicide officials are working to straighten out the facts in this case.

Investigators said several people were detained and a weapon was recovered.

KPRC 2 is working to learn the name of the suspect and the victim.
