Houston Police say it happened in the 13700 block of Ludgate Pass, just before 6 p.m.

Photos shared by HPD show officers investigating and what appears to be a garage door in the driveway of a home with items scattered around.

According to Lt. Larry Crowson, the man had been with his wife and 1-year-old son eating dinner in their home when he began acting erratically. This led to an argument between the man and his wife.

Shortly afterwards, the man grabbed the child and went out to his car in the garage. He got in and proceeded to back up, ramming the garage door until it fell off.

Crowson said he then drove down the street at a high rate of speed until he came to an intersection, where he drove the vehicle into an unoccupied home.

Police and Houston Fire responded and pulled the man and child out of the vehicle. Thankfully, the child was not hurt and is back with his mother.

Crowson said the man was still acting erratically, so police handcuffed him. Shortly afterwards, Crowson said the man passed out.

He was taken to a hospital, where he died.

Because the man was handcuffed, they are treating this as an in-custody death and are investigating it.

Crowson said they believe the man may have been acting erratically and died because of a drug overdose. An autopsy will be performed to find out the man’s cause of death.
