Man accused of trying to kidnap 13-year-old girl at north Harris County apartment complex arrested

HARRIS COUNTY, Texas – A man, who allegedly attempted to kidnap a 13-year-old girl from a north Harris County apartment complex over the weekend, has been arrested.

Stanley Dotson, 41, is charged with attempted kidnapping for the May 3 incident.

The incident happened at the Bella Vida apartments at 15330 Ella Blvd.

According to court documents, the 13-year-old girl told deputies that an approximately 30–50-year-old man, who was wearing a gray shirt with the word “SHOT” on it, had been staring at her and it was making her uncomfortable.

The girl told deputies the man began following her while she was riding her electric scooter and proceeded to grab her right arm and pull her towards him and drag her. She said she fell onto the ground and began screaming, at which point the man let her go and ran away.

Two witnesses also corroborated the girl’s account of what happened to deputies.

KPRC 2’s Bill Barajas went out to the complex on Wednesday to learn more about what happened. The complex put out a letter and photo of the alleged suspect who appeared to also be touching himself in the photo.

The court documents say deputies received a tip on Wednesday from someone saying they knew the man and his name was Stanley Dotson. The person also provided a link to Dotson’s Facebook profile.

Deputies presented a photo lineup of Dotson and several other men with similar characteristics to the victim and a witness. Both of them were able to positively identify Dotson as the suspect.

On Thursday, Dotson was taken into custody by the Harris County Sheriff’s Office and DPS. He has been booked into the Harris County Jail.

The news about Dotson’s arrest was a relief for neighbors.

“My heart is relieved,” said Katrina Pickens.

Records show Dotson has a lengthy criminal history, including an indecent exposure arrest in 2022, but that case was dismissed.

The Harris County District Attorney’s Office filed a motion to deny Dotson’s bail for his new attempted kidnapping charge, citing he has two prior felony convictions. During Dotson’s probable cause hearing Thursday night, he was issued a $100,000 bond.

The sheriff’s office wants to know if Dotson has done the same thing anywhere else and is asking the public to call 832-927-2795 if they have any information.
