It happened around 11 p.m. when security at the Kelsey-Seybold Clinic on Cypress Woods Medical Drive off FM 1960 Rd. West asked an unidentified man sleeping in his car. When the man refused, the Harris Co. Sheriff’s deputies were called to assist.

The first deputy spoke to the man, but officials said he ignored the officer, so backup was called. Investigators said the backup deputy arrived, and they broke the vehicle’s window to get the suspected trespasser out of the car.

HCSO Asst. Chief J. Nanny said officers were able to open the door and deploy a taser, which had “somewhat” of an effect, but the man remained in the car.

“It had some effect, but it wasn’t successful enough to have him comply with the orders,” he explained. “So they wound up physically removing him from the car.

Once deputies were able to get the man out of his car, officials said he was wielding a large butcher knife, prompting the two officers to shoot him. He died at the scene.

Investigators have only described the deputies as 29 and 25-years-old with 7.5 and 6.5 years with the HCSO, respectively. Both officers have been placed on administrative leave as internal investigations are conducted.
