Uber driver arrested for sexual assault in The Woodlands; investigators seek more victims

Montgomery County authorities are urging possible victims to come forward after a rideshare driver was accused of sexually assaulting a woman near Market Street.
On April 28, detectives with the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office Persons Crimes Unit began investigating a reported sexual assault involving a woman near Market Street in The Woodlands. During the investigation, detectives identified 56-year-old Janaka Manatunga of Conroe, as the suspect.
Authorities say Manatunga was operating as an Uber driver in the Montgomery County area at the time of the alleged assault. He has since been arrested and booked into the Montgomery County Jail on a charge of sexual assault.
Authorities believe other individuals may have also experienced inappropriate behavior from Manatunga during rideshare trips.
