Game-changer for Acres Homes: Legacy Health Clinic aims to close gaps

Legacy Community Health has officially broken ground on a new 26,000-square-foot clinic that will bring critical medical services directly into the heart of the community in Acres Homes. Acres Homes, a neighborhood deeply rooted in Houston’s history and culture, is getting a major boost in health care access.

Legacy Community Health has officially broken ground on a new 26,000-square-foot clinic that will bring critical medical services directly into the heart of the community. The project is backed by a $51 million donation from Houston Methodist — a move both organizations call a commitment to health equity.

“You could just feel the energy here today,” said Dr. Tamisha Jones. “We have community members here with their shirts on, supporting this effort. We want to support them. It’s been great.”

The need is clear. Nearly half of Acres Homes residents are Black, another 42% are Latino, and close to a quarter are uninsured. Many families in the area struggle to access even basic health care services.

“This is about providing access to high-quality, compassionate care,” said Houston Methodist CEO Dr. Marc Boom. “Every community deserves that.”

When complete, the new Legacy clinic will offer pediatric care, OB-GYN services, behavioral health, adult medicine, and even infusion therapy for cancer patients. Renderings reveal a modern facility featuring 24 exam rooms and four infusion bays, with plans to open in 2026.

“This clinic will make the community healthier and more vibrant,” said Robert Palussek, interim CEO and COO of Legacy. “We’re planning to hire from within the community — giving back and building a healthier future together.”

This is one of two major health centers being built with support from Houston Methodist’s historic gift. The other clinic is under construction in Pasadena. The Acres Homes clinic is set to open it’s doors in July 2027.
