Court resets hearing for Fort Bend Judge KP George in social media hoax case

FORT BEND COUNTY – Fort Bend County Judge KP George’s court appearance was reset on Tuesday in connection with the social media hoax he was accused of participating in regarding his campaign.

George was present in court with his new attorneys at his side, Jared Woodfill and Terry Yates.

His attorneys and prosecutors agreed to the reset after prosecutors told the court there are still “additional device extractions” that need to be done.

However, prosecutors told the court they have “the bulk of the evidence they need to move forward” with this case.

This comes a week after his former staffer Taral Patel pleaded guilty to two misdemeanor charges for creating fake online accounts, impersonating officials, and posting racist comments about himself to gain voter sympathy during last year’s election.

As a punishment, Patel will be on probation for the next 24 months.

Last year, the judge found himself in legal trouble when he was charged with two misdemeanors for allegedly faking his identity online. The charges came after Patel admitted in court documents that he committed an offense with George in September 2022.

But this is not the only legal trouble George has found himself in. Earlier this month, on April 4, George was charged with two counts of money laundering, a third-degree felony.

He is accused of laundering $30,000 to $150,000.

Court records showed he allegedly knowingly maintained an interest in, concealed, possessed, or transferred the proceeds of criminal activity, namely wire fraud, between $30,000 and $150,000. Records also show he tampered with a government record, namely a campaign finance report, with the intent to defraud or harm.

George has been elected twice by voters to sit in the county judge’s seat.
