Salvador Saucedo was found inside a house on fire in Richards, Texas, that authorities linked to his girlfriend’s home. When Saucedo was found Tuesday evening, deputies said he had already shot himself in the head and was rushed to a hospital for medical treatment.

This, after investigators said he escaped custody of Jan. 23 at Mid Coast Medical Center. He was in custody on multiple charges, including possession of a controlled substance, resisting arrest, and assault on a peace officer, according to the WCSO. Saucedo was charged with escaping.

Saucedo was in the hospital after he was declared clinically brain dead on Wednesday. In a statement from Waller Co. deputies, medical personnel released his body to family members Thursday evening to determine where they would like his organs to be donated.

As for the fire in the burning home Saucedo was found in, Grimes County is handling the investigation.
