Waller County man who escaped police custody found in burning home with self-inflicted gunshot wound

BELLVILLE. Texas – After more than three weeks on the run, a man who escaped custody while undergoing testing at a hospital in Bellville has been recaptured by authorities with a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

Salvador Saucedo was located inside a house that was on fire in Richards, Texas. Authorities linked the home to his girlfriend. When Saucedo was found, he had already shot himself, and he was rushed to a hospital for medical treatment.

He escaped custody on the evening of Jan. 23 at Mid Coast Medical Center.

Saucedo was in custody on multiple charges, including possession of a controlled substance, resisting arrest, and assault on a peace officer, according to the WCSO. He has also been charged with escape.

Officials said they are working to determine what caused the fire and will provide further updates on Saucedo’s condition.
