According to the Houston Police Department, Comeaux and his friends confronted a man who was trying to break into one of their cars. A fight ensued, and the suspect fired shots, killing Comeaux and injuring another person before running from the scene. The shooter is described as having dreadlocks with yellow and gold tips.

Julian’s mother, Larisha Sellers, expressed her grief and desire for justice.

“Just empty. Lost, broken. Speechless,” she said. “We are seeking justice. Fight. Sweat, blood and tears.”

Sellers, who was told she couldn’t have children, described Julian as a miracle. “I just want justice for my baby. I just don’t understand it. No mother should have to lose a child.”

Julian was set to enlist in the Navy and following in his mom’s footsteps in serving, a plan that has now been replaced with funeral arrangements.

His cousin, Janesha Sellers, highlighted Julian’s character, saying, “Julian is the type of person that he can see you doing something wrong and he wants to talk to you instead. Like you, ‘hey, man, what’s going on with you? What you need, you know why? Why are you going to do this? You don’t have to do this.’”

The family is urging anyone with information about the shooter to come forward. “Just do what’s right,” Janesha Sellers said. “Just imagine if this was somebody in your bloodline and if this was your cousin, your child, your nephew, your son, anything. Just do what’s right.”

Residents in the area have expressed concerns about vehicle break-ins, noting that broken glass is a common sight along the streets.

“Yes, my car has been broken into about three times,” said Phillip Taylor, who lives at a nearby apartment complex. “I’ve lived in this building for five years now. And as you know, crime is going to be commensurate with the population. We live in the fourth largest city in the nation. Sometimes crimes, you know, it’s better to keep your head on a swivel and have a little bit of discretion is going to be the better part of valor.”

HPD’s preliminary data from 2024 indicates nearly 50,801 motor vehicle thefts and thefts of vehicle parts, a decrease from 58,451 in 2023. A spokesperson for the department stressed the data from its transparency website could be off as the numbers aren’t yet complete.

Authorities are asking anyone with information about the suspect to contact HPD Homicide at 713-308-3600 or Crime Stoppers at 713-222-TIPS to remain anonymous.
