Drones will help Bellaire Police Department respond to some scenes through new FAA approved program

HOUSTON, Texas – The Bellaire Police Department has received approval from the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) to conduct Beyond Visual Line of Sight (BVLOS) drone operations.

This marks a significant milestone in the department’s efforts to launch its Drone as First Responder (DFR) program.

The DFR program aims to deploy drones from a dock to fly ahead of officers to a scene, offering a real-time aerial view to responding officers, dispatchers, and supervisors.

The approval is anticipated to bring several benefits to the community according to the Bellaire Police Officer’s Association, including faster response times and improved situational awareness for first responders.

Additionally, the program is seen as a force multiplier, increasing the efficiency and safety of officers and the public.

The Bellaire Police Department expressed excitement about the future of public safety in the community and committed to keeping residents informed as the program progresses.
