Based on preliminary details, officials said there was an argument between Chris Batiste, 23, and his unidentified girlfriend.

Police said in an updated news release the 23-year-old pointed a gun at her and refused to let her leave, so she called relatives to the apartment for help. That’s when an unidentified man, the girlfriend’s brother, showed up to try and calm things down, to no avail. Eventually, he and Batiste fought over the gun before a shot was fired, killing the brother-in-law. Batiste then took off with the gun by the time police arrived.T
