Murder of man stabbed, shot inside his west Houston apartment still unsolved more than 40 years later

HOUSTON, Texas – Still not solved, a holiday homicide from more than four decades ago...

Jeffrey Wacaser’s brother Charles ‘Chuck’ Fletcher Wacaser was murdered on December 23, 1983.

“He was in his robe eating hamburger helper from the skillet. He prepared it in. And that’s where he fell to the kitchen floor after being shot and stabbed. The autopsy report said he had some hamburger helper in his throat.” Recalled Jeffrey.

Chuck was 27 years old when he was murdered in his west Houston apartment off Threadneedle Street. The apartment complex no longer stands.

“They also ransacked his apartment. They tore... I mean, the furniture was upside down. Cushions were cut open. Clothes were thrown out of the closet. The toilet was broken,” Jeffrey said.

Jeffrey and his father Emery Edwin Wacaser were tasked with going through Chuck’s apartment.

“My dad’s going through everything. I found this stuff and I said, ‘Well, I don’t know what this is.’ And my dad says that he just started crying, and I think that’s a piece of your brother, and you just started crying. I remember thinking that was pretty sad. But you don’t want to see your parent sob over a piece of their childbirth. That was pretty sad,” said Jeffrey.

Five days after turning 97 at the end of 2024, Emery passed away.

“It would have been nice to be able to tell him this is finally solved. I know. I can’t say recently, but for many years he would call the Houston Police Department. It got to a point where they finally told him, ‘Listen, Mr. Wacaser, we’ll call you if we ever find anything. You don’t need to call us.’” Jeffrey said.

Emery never got that call and neither has Jeffrey, It’s why he reached out to Solvable.

“A quiet man… always worth a smile,” is how Chuck is remembered.

If you know anything about the murder of Chuck Wacaser from 1983 reach out to Houston police.
