As immigration crackdowns ramp up, U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) shares daily arrest and detainer numbers, offering a closer look at how federal authorities are carrying out deportation efforts.
According to ICE, a detainer is a request from federal immigration officials asking local, state, or federal law enforcement agencies to notify ICE before releasing an individual who may be removable from the U.S. The request also asks the agency to hold the individual for up to 48 hours to allow ICE officers to assume custody.
