HOUSTON – KPRC 2 and American Furniture Warehouse are surprising 20 deserving high school seniors with $2,500 scholarships in 2025. All students selected for scholarships have been nominated by their high schools.
The third recipient of the KPRC 2-American Furniture Warehouse Senior Scholarship from the Class of 2025 is Clear Brook High School senior Tien Hoang. Clear Brook High School is part of the Clear Creek Independent School District.
Academically ranked eleventh out of 546 students in his senior class, Hoang also shines for his extracurricular activities and community service. He is president of the National Honor Society, vice president of his senior class, and participated in the American Legion Texas Boys State program.
An accomplished musician, Hoang was designated as the Texas Music Educators Association Region 17 Principal Cellist. Hoang also plays piano and accompanies the children’s choir at his church.
Hoang especially stands out for the time he gives back to serving his community. He has racked up more than 1,000 hours donating his time in a variety of ways from teaching and mentoring students to collecting items and preparing meals for his neighbors in need.
An aspiring pediatrician who will be attending The University of Houston, Hoang’s commitment to helping children is evident in his favorite volunteer activities. Every Tuesday, he teaches elementary students about science through the Community Outreach for Education in STEM program. He also teaches English to students in Vietnam through the Sunflower Mission English Initiative.
