Scammers are back at it again, this time they’re taking advantage of Houston’s annoying parking situation.

The City of Houston is sharing a warning about fake text messages from scammers posing as parking officials demanding payment for unpaid tickets and late fees. The screenshot above was shared by ParkHouston and is how the fake text messages appear.
According to a news release, Houston does not actually send text messages for unpaid fees. It does engage in delinquent collections vendors that send texts to customers with outstanding citations, but The City says people can opt out of getting texts or emails.

Here is the full statement/warning from ParkHouston:
“The text message demands payment for unpaid parking invoices and late fees. The City of Houston’s parking authority, ParkHouston, does not send text messages for unpaid parking invoices, fines, or fees. ParkHouston does engage a delinquent collections vendor that sends text messages to customers with delinquent citations; however, these texts and emails inform the customer the message is on behalf of the City of Houston and includes an option to opt out of messaging and or/emails.”
