HOUSTON – After a Brazoria County sheriff’s deputy was shot and killed while attempting to serve a warrant on a violent fugitive Wednesday, a Houston-based non-profit organization which helps provide financial assistance to the families of fallen law enforcement officers has already pledged support.

The 100 Club announced it will present a $20,000 check to the wife of Deputy Jesus Vargas. Additional financial support for the family will be made after an assessment of their needs is conducted.
Across the state, condolences are being made to Vargas’ family by other departments and public officials.
Texas Governor Greg Abbott, Sen. Ted Cruz, Harris County District Attorney Sean Teare, and Texas House Speaker Dustin Burrows are among those posting condolences and honoring Vargas.
