HOUSTON – Severe storms over the past few days have caused major delays for the Houston Airport System.
What happened at Houston airport today?
Hundreds of people have been left waiting for their luggage at Bush Intercontinental Airport Sunday morning. Many travelers telling KPRC 2 they have been at the airport since Saturday morning.
There were long lines at Baggage Claim at Terminal C where frustrated passengers waited to get answers from United Airlines.
Earlier, the airline asked the Federal Aviation Administration for a ground stop at Bush. People at the airport tell KPRC 2 that United told them the delays were originally due to staffing issues and then said it was the weather.
United Airlines clarified in a statement to KPRC 2 their reasoning for asking for the groundstop:
Thunderstorms and other weather conditions impacted operations at Houston’s George Bush Intercontinental Airport (IAH) yesterday, with a ground stop issued to manage volume and limit congestion at the terminal. We’ve been working with customers on delayed or canceled flights to get them on their way as soon as possible. We encourage customers to download our mobile app or visit united.com to check their flight status and view the latest information.
This comes after severe storms came through the Houston area on Saturday and earlier in the week.
