Traveling for Thanksgiving? Here are some spots where the weather may cause delays

Thanksgiving is Thursday and millions of people will either be getting in their cars or hopping on a plane to travel to see family and friends.

For Texas, we are expecting most of the state to be relatively quiet weather wise, although it will be pretty chilly thanks to a cold front.

There are a few areas across the country where the weather could cause some delays if you are flying.

Starting on Wednesday, most of the center of the country looks clear. However, the Midwest and parts of the Northeast will be dealing with some rain and storms.

In the mountains of Utah and Colorado, another storm system will be moving through, causing some snow. This system will eject across the Midwest on Thanksgiving and cause more storms and potential travel delays on Thursday.

This same storm system will push a cold front across the country, which is also the cold front that will come through Houston Thursday morning. You can see the cold air coming out of the center of the country and heading south and east.

Thanksgiving Day, the system gathering strength in the Rocky Mountains will eject across the country. This will lead to rain across portions of the eastern United States and perhaps some snow in the Northeast.

You can see computer models break out swaths of rain throughout the eastern parts of the country. Some areas in the Northeast, like New York and New England, could see some snow mix in with the rain.

You can really see the cold air surging south and east on Thanksgiving Day. A majority of the country will be experiencing chilly to downright cold temperatures on Thanksgiving. Here in Texas, we will also be dealing with chilly temperatures with areas like North Texas seeing temperatures in the 40s behind the cold front.

By Friday, most of the country should be clear of disruptive weather, with the exception of the Northeast and areas around the Great Lakes. Cold temperatures will be in place and the potential exists for lake effect snow in places like Erie, Pennsylvania, and Buffalo, New York.

By Friday morning, a cold air mass will be affecting the majority of the country. While most areas will be dry, the cold temperatures will definitely be noticeable.
