With just over a week until Thanksgiving Day, the City of Houston is looking for the community’s help as it gears up for another fun-filled holiday parade.
Houston Mayor John Whitmire and the City of Houston are calling for volunteers for the H-E-B Thanksgiving Day Parade. This will be the parade’s 75th year, and plans to welcome in the holiday cheer by “celebrating all things Houston.”

Nine-time Olympic gold medalist Carl Lewis will lead the parade through downtown at 9 a.m. Thanksgiving Day, honoring all the Houstonians who competed in the 2024 Summer Olympics and Paralympics.
“I invite all Houstonians to start their Thanksgiving Day with us as we honor a 75-year parade tradition and celebrate the spirit of the Olympics,’ Mayor Whitmire said in a statement. “I look forward to sharing the experience with family friends, and all the wonderful supporters who have made it possible for the city to start the holiday season with thanks, joy and gratitude.”
Volunteers will be assigned to a number of jobs, including banner carriers, balloon handlers, seating ushers, parade marshals, back lot helpers and ADA ushers. Volunteers also must be at least 16 years of age, and parade marshals must be at least 18.

Before the parade, volunteers are required to attend a training session, which will be held Thursday, Nov. 21 at 6 p.m. and Monday, Nov. 25 at 6 p.m. at the Volunteer Headquarters located at City Hall—901 Baby St., Houston, Texas 77007.
