Over $31M worth of drugs found in serrano pepper shipment at Texas border

PHARR, TexasU.S. Customs and Border Protection officers made a record-breaking drug bust at the Pharr International Bridge, finding $31 million in methamphetamine hidden among serrano peppers

CBP officers conducting inspections on a tractor-trailer crossing from Mexico used non-intrusive inspection equipment before physically examining the shipment.

Inside the trailer, they discovered 1,859 packages of methamphetamine, totaling 2,155 pounds, hidden among the peppers.

“Our CBP officers continue to remain vigilant and intercepted this massive methamphetamine load, preventing it from reaching American streets,” said Carlos Rodriguez, Port Director for the Hidalgo/Pharr/Anzalduas Port of Entry.

The narcotics, valued at $31,169,000, along with the vehicle, were seized.

Homeland Security Investigations agents have launched a criminal investigation into the incident.
