SPRING, TX – Talk about purr-fect timing! A kitten is now safe and recovering at a local vet’s office thanks to a Harris County Precinct 4 deputy’s quick actions.
Wednesday morning started off like any other day for Deputy Bryan Perez, a seven-year veteran with Pct. 4.

In a phone call with KPRC 2′s Kait Catuiza, Deputy Perez said he was just driving along Treaschwig Road in Spring when he noticed a car stopped on the side of the road.
“I saw a female driver in distress, so I pulled over and put my emergency lights on. When I asked her [the driver] what was wrong, she told me she believed she ran over a kitten and other cars might’ve ran the kitten over too,” said Deputy Perez over the phone.
This was when Deputy Perez decided to briefly stop ongoing traffic to capture the cat. “I just reached into the rim [fender] and pulled the cat out,” Deputy Perez described. “The kitten was not injured, but I think it was more scared and tried to run.”
After making sure everything was alright, Deputy Perez placed the kitten in the front seat of his cruiser and drove down the street to VCA Countryside Animal Hospital.
“It was kind of a sigh of relief to know the cat was not injured,” Deputy Perez explained.
And yes, we asked if he considered adopting the kitten, but Deputy Perez said he has a few dogs that would not do good with a cat in the house. Fortunately, the cat is now being cared for by the team at VCA Countryside Animal Hospital.
