4 Texas men are competing during trials, hoping for a spot on the USA Olympics’ gymnastic team

MINNEAPOLIS, Minnesota – Men’s gymnastics took center stage inside Minneapolis’ Target Center on Thursday. Day two will be Saturday, and the women’s team will compete Friday and Sunday.

Minneapolis has a new name, Gymnastics City USA, and rightfully so as this is the final stop for these gymnasts hoping to make it to the Olympic Games Paris 2024.

Years of hard work, dedication, sweat, and tears were on display inside Target Center.

Twenty men are vying for five spots to represent Team USA in Paris. Of them, four are from Texas.

Twenty-three-year-old Colt Walker from Cedar Park, 21-year-old Fuzzy Benas from Richmond, 20-year-old Asher Hong from Tomball, and 18-year-old Kiran Mandava from Cypress.

Both Kiran and Asher trained at Cypress Academy of Gymnastics.

Asher attends college at Standford University where Kiran is headed in the fall.

Both men have two brothers – all gymnasts.

“Just having two people that are so close to you being able to know what your daily life is like, push you to be your best,”  Kiran said. “Each day you have to come into the gym with this really good focus, you know? You gotta have that mind-body connection. You lose focus for one second and anything can happen.”
