Shots fired at Baseball USA during game; no one injured

HOUSTON – Houston police said gunshots were fired at Baseball USA in northwest Houston during a game Saturday evening.

Baseball USA is located in the 2600 block of W. Sam Houston Pkwy N.

No one was hit by the gunfire and no injuries have been reported.

The incident was captured on video and left children and their parents scrambling to get to safety.

In the video, you can hear kids yell as they start running, then several gunshots are heard.

Jared Kornele, who coaches 6- and 7-year-olds for Havoc Baseball said his team ran for safety when they heard the gunshots. He said everyone is shaken up.

“All they can remember is duck and cover, us throwing kids over fences, just the little stuff that happened. We were running through neighborhoods, backyards, house owners right there on the backside of Baseball USA let us in their house gave us safety, let us go inside their rooms. It was probably many teams, hundreds of people in different houses packed up like sardines but we did what we had to do to get the kids to safety,” he said.

Kornele said Houston police responded. He believes the shooting happened in the parking lot, but police have not confirmed what happened.
