Man’s body found on sidewalk after shooting following drug transaction in southeast Houston, police say

HOUSTON – An investigation is underway after a man’s body was found on a sidewalk following a drug transaction that led to a shooting in southeast Houston Monday, police said.

Officers were called to the 7900 block of Rockhill Street around 11:19 p.m.

Police said when they arrived at the scene, they found a man, who is believed to be between 18 and 23 years of age, dead in the street with multiple gunshot wounds.

According to HPD, another man was on the scene and called 9-1-1 after the shooting. He told detectives he conducted a drug transaction with the man when the man attempted to rob him and another friend inside a vehicle.

The man reportedly told police the victim shot at him and grazed him in the left cheek. The man said he then grabbed the gun from the victim, got out of the car, and attempted to hold the man at gunpoint when the man charged at him with a knife. The suspect then fired multiple shots at the man, HPD said.

Police said the friend inside the vehicle was not injured.

Detectives consulted with members of the Harris County District Attorney’s Office, who said the incident would be referred to a grand jury.
