HOUSTON – A man is now charged in the death of his grandmother, authorities said Thursday.
Oscar Garcia, 36, is charged with murder in the stabbing death of his grandmother, Flora Romero, 82.
At approximately 9 a.m., Houston police officers were dispatched to a residence in the 6500 block of Corbin Street in reference to a report a homicide may have occurred there.
The reportee told dispatch his brother, who struggles with mental health issues, may have killed their grandmother.
When officers arrived, they found the woman stabbed multiple times and in a closet.
She was transported by Houston Fire Department paramedics to Memorial Hermann-Texas Medical Center, where she later died, authorities said.
A mental health unit was called to the scene and at some point Garcia was detained and taken into police custody.
At this time, the department said it does not believe there is a continuous threat to the general public.
The case remains under investigation by the Houston Police Department.
