Pasadena officer to undergo surgery after being injured in crash

PASADENA, Texas – A Pasadena police officer, who was headed to Bayshore Hospital on Monday night to help an off-duty deputy, crashed on his way and was injured.

The crash happened at Spencer Highway and Watters. The officer had to be extricated from his cruiser and suffered a broken arm.

The officer was taken by ambulance to Memorial Hermann Hospital in the Texas Medical Center.

Officials said the officer was on the way to help an off-duty Harris County deputy who reported a fight while working security at Bayshroe Hospital when his cruiser was hit by a driver that ran a red light. The impact of the crash sent the officers patrol cruiser into a utility vehicle, officials said. A third vehicle was also hit, officials said.

The investigation into the crash is ongoing but officials said they were unaware of any other injuries.

The officer’s name was not released but Pasadena Police Chief Josh Bruegger said he was a 2-year veteran of the department.

The officer was listed in stable condition and is expected to undergo surgery Tuesday to repair his injured arm, officials said.
