‘I have a narcotic-smelling horse’: Suspect takes off running after Lubbock officer’s comment on drug-detecting horse

LUBBOCK, Texas – In a video the Lubbock Police Department describes as “the most Texan video you’ll see today”, officers chased down a fleeing suspect who ran after being questioned about whether or not he had narcotics.

But the chase started after what some may find to be an hard to believe statement from one of the officers at the scene.

Video from the incident shows several officers on mounted horseback during an encounter with two men on the side of the road.

“Would you mind if this officer behind you checks your pockets and makes sure you don’t have any narcotics or anything like that?” an officer is heard asking one of the men.

The man responded that he didn’t want to have his pockets checked.

“You don’t want us to check your pockets?” the officer again asks.

Shortly afterwards, a different officer approaches the man on his horse.

“That’s cool, I have a narcotic-smelling horse right here,” the officer said.

Upon hearing this statement, the man being questioned immediately starts running away down an alley, leading to the short pursuit.

The man is quickly taken into custody. Its not clear what happened afterwards.

Whether you believe the Lubbock Police Department actually has narcotic-smelling horses or not, this suspect sure did.
